CCP’S KALINGA NG SINING for Sendong Victims



The Cultural Center of the Philippines, through its Cultural Exchange Department, will conduct an art for healing and transformation program for the benefit of the survivors of typhoon Sendong in Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, and Dumaguete from March 6-17, 2012.

Billed as KALINGA NG SINING, a “memorial” ritual-ceremony to pay respect to those who perished from the calamity and offer prayers of hope and unity for the survivors will be organized. Another highlight of the program is a trainors' training focusing on community healing through the arts will be conducted by experts to include Edna Vida-Froilan (dance),  Lakan Bunyi (theater),  Dr. Grace Evangelista-Clinical Psychologist,  Peachy Gonzales-Fernando-Specialist in Clinical Psychology and Rheeza Hernandez  (puni or leaf art maker from Bulacan).

At the same time, more than 2,500 children/youth from the barangays that were affected in Iligan, Cagayan de Oro and Dumaguete will be mobilized to participate in a special arts program which will include interactive performances in dance, music, theater, storytelling, games, by Manila based artists/groups led by Garry Lim, Bayang Barrios, Waway Saway, Lakan Bunyi, and Novo Concertante.   The local performing groups and artists who will participate are:  in Cagayan de Oro City -- Xavier Univ. (XU) Dance Troupe, Capitol Univ.(CU) Dance Troupe,  Liceo de Cagayan Next Move, CU & XU Glee Club.  In Iligan City --- Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG) & Octava Choir from MSU-IIT and TINTA Artists of Iligan and a team of Babaylan from Lapuyan-Zamboanga del Sur and in Dumaguete, local artists led by the Youth Advocates through Theater Arts (YATTA) and other performing groups will present performances for the community.

Kalinga ng Sining is presented by the CCP CED in partnership with the Xavier University Cagayan de Oro City Center for Culture & the Arts, Capitol University & Liceo de Cagayan University;   MSU-IIT Iligan City Cultural Development Office & the College of Arts & Sciences, Integrated Performing Arts Guild, in Dumaguete City -   YATTA, Siliman University Cultural Affairs Committee & Guidance-Testing Division, Association of Barangay Captains, Provincial Govt. of Negros Oriental.  The CCP CED is also thankful for the generous support of its program donors to include Toys R Us, Anvil Publishing, Adarna Books, Eat Bulaga-TAPE Productions, Dona Maria Premium Rice, Bently Corporation and the employees of the CCP OP-OVP-FSD.
