Moviemov: Italian Cinema Now Returns at Greenbelt Cinemas

Fresh from the success of last year’s festival, Moviemov: Italian Cinema Now is back in Manila. The International Italian Film Festival returns anew on December 4-9, 2012 at Greenbelt 3 Cinemas, Makati City.

The festival will feature outstanding Italian contemporary films such as Cesare deve morire by the Taviani brothers (Golden Bear at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival and Italian entry for the Oscar’s Best Foreign language film at the 85th Academy Awards), Posti in piedi in paradiso by Carlo Verdone, and the complete version of last year's teaser Dracula 3D by Dario Argento. A retrospective of Italian films by director Sergio Leone, the master of "Spaghetti Western" genre such as Il colosso di rodi, Per un pugno di dollari, Per qualche dollaro in più, Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo, C'era una volta il west, Giù la testa, C'era una volta in America will also be screened. Likewise, the film festival pays tribute to critically-acclaimed Filipino films and directors such as Brillante Mendoza’s Thy Womb and Gutierrez Mangansakan II’s Qiyamah, the winner of Film Development Council of the Philippines' National Film Festival in Davao.

A travelling festival, Moviemov showcases contemporary Italian films that best promote and show in Asia what present-day Italian cinema is all about. It has travelled to Rome, Bangkok and New Delhi. Moviemov is also a competition of contemporary Italian movies judged by a jury of Filipino professionals. And for the first time in Asia, and like the International Film Festivals in Rome, Venice, Berlin or Cannes, Moviemov, as an all-round cinema, will provide roundtable discussions among Italian and Filipino filmmakers and producers in order to have an international exchange of ideas and concepts in filmmaking, as well as discuss future collaborations and lasting partnerships. Other highlights of the event include the red carpet gala event, the walkway for the Italian and Filipino film stars on December 4 with cocktails that will provide a sampling of Italian food and wines.

The film event is supported by the General Direction for Cinema of the Italian Ministry of Heritage and Culture and the Film Development Council of the Philippines, organized by the Embassy of Italy, Playtown, the Philippine-Italian Association, Rustan's, The Peninsula Manila and the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Entrance is free to the public.
