After a record number of nominations — more than 4,000 entries — garnered mainly from Filipino theatergoers since last month, and a careful proofing by Oliver Oliveros, regional editor, BWW is excited to announce that voting has begun for this year’s BWW Philippines Awards, which recognize the best talents and productions in the Philippine theater scene.

In its second year, Philippine-based productions compete with international touring productions that were staged in the country from October 2011 to September 2012.

“Via the BWW Awards, Filipino productions are taking on the greater challenge to be at par with foreign productions,” said Robert Diamond, BWW New York editor-in-chief.

“This year’s mix of local and foreign talents and productions pitting against each other is a reflection that we provide equal opportunity for everyone. For us, there is no big or small production. We want to recognize all the efforts of those who put on a good show for their respective audiences.”

“Making it to the nominees’ list is already an achievement in itself. Everyone is already a winner,” Diamond added.

BWW, an international brand, whose main office is located in New York, has been covering Broadway, West End, and international theater productions for 10 years now.

BWW’s Manila team is managed by Christina Mancuso, regional managing editor, Oliver Oliveros, regional editor (both Mancuso and Oliveros are based in the United States), Jeffrey Aguiman (secretariat), and correspondents Jory Rivera, Dale Bacar, JR Sala, Precious Cundangan, and Jude Cartalaba.

Voting for the 2012 BWW Philippines Awards will run through Saturday, December 15, 2012 only; and voters can only vote once.

BWW provides live statistics throughout the voting period. Filipino theater fans must make sure to check back often.
