A Spanish Affair with Beso Cucina Vinoteka

Beso Cucina Vinoteka is a Modern Spanish Kitchen situated at the busy streets of Bonifacio High Street Central. The restaurant interior is splashed with a red and black theme which exudes a romantic ambiance, perfect for dates and private gatherings.

Chef Carlo Miguel is known as one of the creators of  Draft, Opus, Distillery The Fort, Black Olive, Publiko, and the newest 71 Gramercy. He shared that his knowledge on Spanish Cuisine dates back during his childhood, observing and helping his mother cook paella and other spanish dishes.

Beso Cucina Vinoteka is well known for their delectable Tapas which goes well with their wine selection and drinks.

Here are some of their Best Tapas:
Crispy Mushroom Salad boasts with crispy oyster mushrooms, feta and marinated onions and tomato in a bed of lettuce greens. A fresh appetizer to start your palate.
Mushroom Croquetas with Truffle Aioli was the tastiest and best so far. Highly recommended dish for starters. It has Truffle oil, so who wouldn't like it?

Cured Meats Platter composed of Jamon Serrano, Jamon Reserva, Chorizo Iberico, Lomo Iberico and Chorizo Pamplona. The meats were thinly sliced and had a prominent smoky-ish flavor.

Gambas is shrimp sauteed in chorizo, garlic, white wine and parsley. Their version of gambas was saucy and good  as compared to other typical gambas.
Pork Chicharones is your typical crunchy pork belly. The pork belly are thinly sliced which makes it comes with chili lime aioli which is perfect match with their good draft beers.

Peri Peri Chicken Slider is like a chicken burger slider. The chicken was crunchy and juicy, not your typical fast food chicken burger.
Flatbreads are somehow similar like pizzas, but with a different take. They have a good selection of flatbread variety. The Bacon, Blue Cheese and Onion Jam Flatbread is savory and a bit sweet. It was a good thing that the blue cheese taste was not that prominent for I've never been a fan of blue cheese.

Here are some of the Main Dishes not to be missed at Beso Cucina Vinoteka:
Braised Lambshank in tomato, peppers, chorizo and chickpeas comes with rice pilaf. The lambshank was good and not gummy. The sauce goes well with the lamb which makes it a satisfying meal.
Grilled Salmon Fillet comes with cauliflower, strands of zucchini, raisins and pine nuts. What makes their Grilled Salmon stand out is the skin was crispy and the salmon was smoking good. This dish is recommended for people on a strict diet but want a satisfying meal.
Beef Escalivada is braised beef brisket with squash puree, crushed peas and pedro ximenez reduction. The beef came out tender and the sauce was overpowering. You may want another helping of rice to go with this meal.

It wouldn't be a Spanish Cuisine Degustation without the Good Ol' Paella. Beso Paella is good for sharing, they have a platter for 2-3 and 6-8 pax. Their paella has a signature moist and savory taste.
Beso Paella composed of pork, chorizo, bacon, prawns, squid, mussels and clams. You can see that this paella is a winner. Ingredients were not scrimped and so as the flavor. This a complete meal already for the Filipino palate, which has a savory rice and a lot of toppings.

Black Paella is squid ink paella with chorizo, bacon, squid and prawns. It taste quite similar with the Beso Paella, it differs with color because of the squid ink. Just make sure to check your lips and teeth after eating this for you may not want the ink to be stuck on your teeth.
Here comes the desserts. From an observation, a lot of the dessert options in Beso are cream/milk based, which is not a downer because we know everyone likes them.
Crema Catalana can be compared as a creme brulee with a panna cotta texture, somewhat a hybrid of both. It was sweet attributed to the crunchy caramelized sugar on top.
Chocolate Flan is made with dark Belgian chocolate which gives the flan a bitter taste. Some may prefer the normal sweet caramel flan, but the chocolate flan is best for those who does not have much tolerance to sweet desserts. Perfect for people on a diet but wanted to tame their sweet tooth.

Dulce de Leche Natillas is Dulce de Leche with soft bread. It's creamy and yummy. The soft bread gives texture which balances the sweetness of the dulce de leche. It can be compared to a creamy bread pudding, or maybe not because it is more cream than bread per se.

Vanilla Semi Frio is the best dessert to try. Sadly it is only offered in the Valentines menu which would be available the whole February. It's like Ice cream cake but without the cake per se. It was creamy and not too sweet. Chef Carlo mentioned that it may appear and taste like ice cream, the composition of ingredients makes it different.

If your looking for a place to have a romantic date, Beso Cucina Vinoteka is highly recommended. Good food: Check! Good Ambiance: Double Check! Good Drinks to cap the date: Check!  You will surely get some good points from your date and you'll never know what it may lead to next...
