This year's Metro Manila Film Festival is surrounded by controversies after one of the entries, Honor Thy Father, has been disqualified from getting the Best Picture award due to non-disclosure of its producers of the movie's participation to the Cinema One Originals Festival 2015.

The notice was sent to Honor Thy Father's executive producer Ronald Monteverde of Reality Entertainment a day before the awarding ceremony. The letter was signed by MMFF overall chairman Atty. Emerson Santos.

The letter read, "Please be advised that due to your non-disclosure of your participation in the Cinema One Originals Festival 2015 as the opening film and after careful and thorough deliberation, the Metro Manila Film Festival Executive Committee has disqualified your entry, Honor Thy Father, from the selection of the Best Picture Category of the MMFF 2015 Awards."

Erik Matti, Honor Thy Father's director, posted on his Facebook page a copy of the said letter and commented, "What is this? Tinanggal na nga kami sa mga sinehan and now this?"

The said FB post has since been deleted but a screenshot has gone viral online.

The disqualification notice is only limited to the Best Picture award but the movie remains part of the official entries and may still be able to get any other awards from the festival.

However, on the FB page of Cinema Bravo, a copy of the letter from Honor Thy Father's associate producer Stacey Bascon addressed to MMFF executive committee chairman Jesse Ejercito informing the festival committee that their movie would open Cinema One Originals. This belies the statement from MMFF that the movie producers did not disclose their participation with Cinema One Originals.
