GMA to air "Descendants of the Sun" adaptation this 2019

On its omnibus plug, GMA Network included the Philippine adaptation of the hit Koreanovela Descendants of the Sun confirming the earlier reports that the Kapuso Network secured the rights to remake the series.

While there is no confirmed cast yet, both Kapuso fans and Koreanovela televiewers have varying opinions about this news. Loyal Kapuso viewers have dropped several names as suggestions, however, other Koreanovela fans are not happy about it.

Concerns about poor quality and low budget sum up the negative comments. It's most recent remake project, GMA's Pinoy adaptation of another Korean hit series My Love From The Star led by Jennylyn Mercado and newcomer Gil Cuerva didn't get much attention.

To be fair, GMA has a long list of foreign TV series remakes which became popular when they got aired. Among them are Stairway To Heaven (Dingdong Dantes and Rhian Ramos), Endless Love (Dingdong Dantes and Marianne Rivera), Ako si Kim Samsoon (Regine Velasquez) and Temptation of Wife (Marian Rivera, Dennis Trillo and Glaiza De Castro).

Anyway, since the Kapuso Network already confirmed that they are airing Descendants of the Sun, let's just hope that they will give justice to the show.

Some rumors are saying that this could be a project meant for the return of AlDub in primetime. For some, they're saying that this could be Heart Evangelista's next big project while others hope that the team up of My Special Tatay leads Ken Chan and Rita Daniella best fit for the roles in the series. Whoever gets casted, they're filling in big shoes.  Descendants of the Sun is a big hit not only in Korea but also here in the Philippines when GMA aired it back in 2016.
